How Much Does Shipping from China to the USA Cost in 2026?
In YANCHAO’s 20 September 2026 rate snapshot, China-to-USA shipping starts at CNY 156 for the first 0.5 kg by general-goods air, CNY 129 for the first 1 kg by economy sea, or CNY 440 for the first 13 kg on a heavier economy-sea service. These are route charges, not a promise that every parcel will qualify for the cheapest line. Cargo type, packed size, US ZIP code and customs terms can change the final amount.
Rate-snapshot notice: Every price on this page is a dated YANCHAO route-table figure supplied on 20 September 2026. Route availability and checkout prices can change. Optional packing services, remote-area charges, oversize charges, customs charges and promotions are not added unless stated. The warehouse’s final outbound measurements control the payable freight.

China-to-USA air and sea rates at a glance
The table below keeps the service names and billing units shown in the supplied route data. CNY means Chinese yuan.
| Route | Eligible cargo shown in the route table | First weight | Additional weight | Volume divisor | Listed weight range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| US air line, general goods | General goods | CNY 156 / 0.5 kg | CNY 58 / 0.5 kg | 6000 | 0–20 kg |
| US special-goods air, promotional fast service | General goods and listed special categories | CNY 168 / 0.5 kg | CNY 64 / 0.5 kg | 6000 | 0–99 kg |
| US economy air | Selected general and special categories | CNY 1,012 / 11 kg | CNY 92 / 1 kg | 6000 | 11–99 kg |
| US express sea, general goods | General goods | CNY 785 / 21 kg | CNY 37 / 1 kg | 6000 | 21–9,999 kg |
| US economy sea, general goods | General goods | CNY 440 / 13 kg | CNY 30 / 1 kg | 6000 | Route table shows 0–9,999 kg; service name requires 13 kg |
| US economy sea, general goods | General goods | CNY 129 / 1 kg | CNY 28 / 1 kg | 6000 | 1–9,999 kg |
| US express sea, general goods | General goods | CNY 145 / 1 kg | CNY 30 / 1 kg | 6000 | 1–9,999 kg |
| US special-goods sea | Listed special categories | CNY 675 / 15 kg | CNY 45 / 1 kg | 6000 | Service name requires 15 kg |
The supplied table settles a naming issue that can otherwise cause a bad comparison. The 21 kg minimum belongs to the express general-goods sea route. The special-goods sea route starts at 15 kg and uses a different price.
The route data lists maximum side and girth limits as well. A parcel can fall inside the weight range and still be rejected or surcharged because the finished carton is too long or too bulky. Check those limits against the warehouse-packed carton, not the seller’s product page.
What would several exact billable weights cost?
These examples apply the listed first-weight and additional-weight charges to exact billable weights. They do not include a coupon, optional service, customs charge, remote delivery or oversize fee.
| Example parcel | Route used | Listed calculation | Reference freight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 kg general goods | General-goods air | CNY 156 + 3 × CNY 58 | CNY 330 |
| 2 kg eligible special goods | Promotional special-goods air | CNY 168 + 3 × CNY 64 | CNY 360 |
| 11 kg eligible cargo | Economy air, 11 kg minimum | First 11 kg | CNY 1,012 |
| 15 kg general goods | Economy sea, 13 kg minimum | CNY 440 + 2 × CNY 30 | CNY 500 |
| 21 kg general goods | Express sea, 21 kg minimum | First 21 kg | CNY 785 |
| 15 kg eligible special goods | Special-goods sea, 15 kg minimum | First 15 kg | CNY 675 |
For weights between billing units, the checkout rules decide how the remainder is charged. Do not round a parcel down when budgeting. Enter its exact packed weight in the live calculator.
How is chargeable weight calculated?
YANCHAO compares the parcel’s actual scale weight with its volumetric weight and charges the higher figure for the routes shown here.
Volumetric weight in kilograms = length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6000
A carton measuring 60 × 40 × 40 cm has a volumetric weight of 16 kg:
60 × 40 × 40 ÷ 6000 = 16 kg
If the carton weighs 10 kg on the scale, its chargeable weight is 16 kg. If it weighs 18 kg, actual weight controls and the chargeable weight is 18 kg.
This is why a large parcel of pillows, shoes in retail boxes or loosely packed household goods can cost more than its scale weight suggests. Removing unused seller packaging or safely compressing soft goods may reduce volume. Fragile goods may need more protection, so a smaller carton is not always the right goal.
A real California sea-freight case
One anonymised YANCHAO shipment went to West Covina, California on the US special-goods sea route with a 15 kg minimum. It left the China warehouse on 3 August 2026 and was confirmed received on 27 August 2026.
| Measurement | Before warehouse packing | After warehouse packing | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Actual weight | 50.440 kg | 23.040 kg | −27.400 kg |
| Volumetric weight | 61.969 kg | 24.106 kg | −37.863 kg |
| Chargeable weight | 61.969 kg | 24.106 kg | −37.863 kg |
The final chargeable weight remained volume-led because 24.106 kg was slightly higher than the 23.040 kg scale weight. The recorded freight was CNY 1,085 after a CNY 50 new-customer coupon. The observed dispatch-to-receipt interval was about 23 days and 14 hours.
The packing result is useful, but it is one shipment. It does not promise a 61.1% reduction for another parcel. The warehouse could remove a large amount of redundant volume in this case; a dense or fragile shipment may behave very differently.

When does air freight make sense?
Air is the practical choice when delivery time matters more than the lowest freight total or when the parcel is too light to benefit from a heavier sea minimum. The supplied rates also separate general goods from special categories, so the cheapest general-goods line cannot be used as a substitute quote for food, liquids or other restricted cargo.
The general-goods air service has a lower listed opening charge than the special-goods air service. The 11 kg economy-air line changes the calculation for heavier eligible parcels. At exactly 11 kg, its listed base is CNY 1,012, while continuing the 0.5 kg general-air formula would produce CNY 1,374 before eligibility and other charges are considered.
That comparison only helps if both routes accept the parcel and serve the destination. Check the goods first.
When does sea freight make sense?
Sea freight usually suits heavier, less urgent shipments. The route table includes both 1 kg entry products and heavier 13 kg, 15 kg and 21 kg minimums. This matters because the lowest continuation rate does not always produce the lowest total at a small weight.
For example, the 13 kg economy-sea service costs CNY 440 at its minimum. The 1 kg economy-sea formula gives CNY 465 at exactly 13 kg. The difference is small at the threshold, but the heavier route’s CNY 30 continuation charge and the 1 kg route’s CNY 28 continuation charge cross again as weight rises. Use the total for the actual billable weight instead of choosing a route from the continuation price alone.
Special goods need a route that lists the relevant category. The 15 kg special-goods sea service covers categories shown in the supplied table, including food, liquids and pastes, cosmetics, internal-battery products and several other controlled categories. Carrier acceptance does not guarantee US admission. Product ingredients, quantity, declaration and agency rules still apply.
Are US duties included in the freight price?
Do not assume that a low-value parcel automatically enters the United States duty-free. CBP states that, from 29 August 2025, imported goods valued at or below USD 800 generally stopped receiving the former duty-free de minimis treatment and became subject to applicable duties, taxes and fees. The correct treatment depends on the entry method, goods, origin, value and current rules.
Some YANCHAO services may quote a tax-handling arrangement, while others may leave import charges to the recipient. Confirm the selected route at checkout. A route label does not replace a correct goods declaration, and shipping freight should not be presented as the full landed cost unless the route terms say what is included.

How to compare two quotes without fooling yourself
Use the same packed parcel for both calculations. Keep the following fields unchanged:
- goods and cargo category;
- actual weight and all three carton dimensions;
- US destination ZIP code;
- declared value and product origin;
- optional packing or insurance services;
- coupon status and quote date.
Then compare the total payable amount, the route’s billing minimum, customs terms and expected service window. A low continuation rate can look attractive while the first-weight charge or minimum makes the route a poor fit for the parcel in front of you.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to ship 1 kg from China to the USA?
In YANCHAO’s 20 September 2026 snapshot, the listed general-goods air calculation is CNY 214 for 1 kg, economy sea starts at CNY 129 for 1 kg, and express sea starts at CNY 145 for 1 kg. Eligibility, dimensions, ZIP code and current checkout terms still control the quote.
Is air or sea cheaper from China to the USA?
Sea has lower listed charges in the supplied snapshot, but it is not automatically the right service. Air suits time-sensitive and lighter parcels, while sea usually fits less urgent shipments. Compare eligible routes using the same packed weight, dimensions and destination.
Does YANCHAO charge actual weight or volumetric weight?
For the routes on this page, YANCHAO compares actual weight with volumetric weight and uses the higher figure. Volumetric weight is calculated as length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6000.
Can food, cosmetics or products with built-in batteries use the cheapest route?
Only when the selected route lists that cargo category and the goods pass review. The general-goods price should not be applied to special goods. Products such as loose batteries, power banks, alcohol-based perfume and other prohibited items also need separate screening and may be refused.
Are US customs charges included?
It depends on the selected service. US low-value imports no longer receive a blanket USD 800 duty-free treatment, and CBP says applicable duties, taxes and fees may apply. Confirm whether the chosen route includes tax handling or requires the recipient to pay.
