Parcel Forwarding from China to Germany: Routes, Customs and How It Works
For most personal shopping parcels, the sensible order is: screen the goods, consolidate compatible orders, obtain the final packed measurements, then compare Germany routes. YANCHAO's current planning ranges are 8–15 days by air, 25–35 days by truck and 45–60 days by sea.
This page is the Germany starting point. Separate guides cover cost and DDP and what can be shipped to Germany.
Which route works for a Germany parcel?
| Route family | Current planning range | Usually worth comparing when | Key condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Europe air | 8–15 days | The parcel is small, urgent or below truck minimum | Goods must fit the selected general- or special-goods route |
| Europe truck | 25–35 days | Chargeable weight is at least 12 kg and delivery is not urgent | Referenced routes use DDP; size and goods limits still apply |
| Europe sea | 45–60 days | Chargeable weight is at least 21 kg or the carton is large | Confirm current customs term and final-mile scope |
These are transport estimates, not seller-to-door guarantees. Seller dispatch, domestic delivery to the warehouse, intake, packing and any customs inspection take additional time.
How does the forwarding process work?
1. Get the China warehouse address
Open a YANCHAO account and copy the assigned warehouse address and customer identifier. Enter both accurately when placing orders with Taobao, 1688, JD or another Chinese seller.
2. Check the goods before ordering
Send the product link, exact name, ingredients or material, quantity, value and relevant product details for review. A carrier's willingness to transport an item does not mean German Customs or another German authority will admit it.
3. Receive and inspect the domestic parcels
When seller parcels reach the warehouse, check the recorded item and quantity. Warehouse intake and photographs help identify obvious mistakes, but they are not authentication, safety testing or a customs decision.
4. Consolidate compatible orders
Remove redundant seller packaging where safe, combine compatible purchases and add protection suited to the contents. Liquids, fragile goods, sharp items and dense metal products may need different packing or separate routes.
5. Compare routes with final packed data
Use the packed actual weight, length, width and height. The final chargeable weight—not the seller's advertised product weight—normally controls the freight calculation.
6. Declare accurately and dispatch
List specific goods, quantities and genuine purchase values. Keep order and payment records. Customs or the delivery partner may still request evidence on a DDP route.
How is Germany freight calculated?
The selected route normally compares actual weight with volumetric weight and bills the greater result, subject to the route minimum and rounding rule.
Volumetric weight = length × width × height ÷ divisor
Most referenced Europe routes use divisor 6000. A reduced-volumetric air option uses 12000 for eligible cargo. For a 60 × 45 × 40 cm carton, the results are 18 kg at divisor 6000 and 9 kg at divisor 12000. The lower volumetric result does not automatically mean the lower final quote because tariffs, size limits and goods acceptance differ.
Use the detailed Germany cost and DDP guide before comparing totals.
Two Real YANCHAO Shipments to North Rhine-Westphalia
Two anonymised YANCHAO shipment records from 2026 show how the goods, packed measurements and delivery deadline affected the route choice. One was a small parcel of ordinary pastry mooncakes sent by air to Essen; the other was a portable air conditioner containing refrigerant, sent by truck to Aachen.
Both shipments used DDP door delivery. The amounts below are the final international-shipment payments after a CNY 50 new-user freight coupon and include selected value-added services. They should not be treated as route-only freight rates or used to calculate a permanent price per kilogram.
| Destination and goods | Route | Final chargeable weight | Observed warehouse-to-receipt time | Final payment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essen — five boxes of ordinary pastry mooncakes | Europe Air Line, volumetric divisor 12000 | 3.140 kg | 13 days, 9 hours and 53 minutes | CNY 388 |
| Aachen — one portable air conditioner containing refrigerant | Europe Truck General Cargo, 12 kg minimum | 26.780 kg | 28 days, 22 hours and 45 minutes | CNY 1,185 |
Essen: five boxes of ordinary pastry mooncakes by air
The Essen parcel left the YANCHAO warehouse on 28 August 2026 at 10:45 and was confirmed received on 10 September at 20:38.
| Measurement | Before packing | After packing |
|---|---|---|
| Actual weight | 5.760 kg | 3.140 kg |
| Volumetric weight | 2.737 kg | 1.249 kg |
| Chargeable weight | 5.760 kg | 3.140 kg |
Packing reduced the recorded chargeable weight by 2.620 kg, or about 45.5%. After packing, the actual weight of 3.140 kg remained higher than the 1.249 kg volumetric weight, so actual weight determined the recorded chargeable weight.
The parcel was delivered in just under 13 days and 10 hours, within the current 8–15 day planning range for the referenced Europe air services.
This result only records what happened to this reviewed shipment. “Mooncake” is not a single customs category: fillings and ingredients differ. Products containing meat, milk or other controlled animal-origin ingredients may be restricted even when a carrier can transport packaged food. Product packaging, ingredients, quantity and the current German import rules must therefore be checked before a new order is accepted.
Aachen: a portable air conditioner by truck
The Aachen shipment left the warehouse on 10 July 2026 at 14:16 and was confirmed received on 8 August at 13:01.
| Measurement | Before packing | After packing |
|---|---|---|
| Actual weight | 27.900 kg | 26.780 kg |
| Volumetric weight | 25.883 kg | 22.308 kg |
| Chargeable weight | 27.900 kg | 26.780 kg |
Packing reduced the recorded chargeable weight by 1.120 kg, or about 4.0%. The packed actual weight remained higher than the volumetric weight, so the recorded chargeable weight was 26.780 kg.
The observed transit was just under 29 days, within the current 25–35 day planning range for the referenced Europe truck service.
The air conditioner was a portable unit containing refrigerant. It was accepted and delivered under the rules applied to this specific shipment after product review. This must not be read as blanket acceptance for every air conditioner. Refrigerant type, compressor and electrical specifications, product condition, packaging, dimensions and the current carrier rules must be checked before another unit is purchased or sent to the warehouse.
What these records show—and what they do not
The Essen shipment shows how removing unnecessary packaging can materially reduce the chargeable weight of a small parcel. The Aachen shipment shows how a 12 kg-minimum truck route can fit a heavier, non-urgent appliance when the product has passed route review.
The payment figures include value-added services and a CNY 50 coupon. They are useful as complete historical order outcomes, but they are not clean route-rate samples. A new Germany quote still requires the exact goods, postcode, final packed weight, dimensions, selected services and current route terms.
What goods need extra checking?
Food, cosmetics, liquids, powders, medicine, built-in-battery products and branded goods need product-level review. Power banks, standalone batteries, alcohol, alcohol-based perfume, fresh food, tobacco, e-cigarettes, counterfeit goods and live plants or animals are among the items YANCHAO does not accept.
Germany's Federal Ministry of Agriculture explains that meat, milk and products made from them are generally prohibited from entering the EU from non-EU countries. Limited exceptions exist for certain products and quantities. Do not treat a route labelled for food or special goods as permission to import a meat- or dairy-containing snack.
The full screening checklist is in What Can You Ship from China to Germany?.
What should the customs declaration include?
Use a recognisable product description rather than “personal goods,” “accessories” or “samples.” Include:
- exact product name and quantity;
- genuine purchase value and currency;
- material or ingredients where relevant;
- brand where applicable;
- battery type and whether it is installed;
- liquid or cosmetic form and capacity;
- recipient name, phone number and complete German address.
From 1 July 2026, the EU applies a temporary EUR 3 customs duty per declared item to qualifying consignments valued at EUR 150 or less. Import VAT and other charges depend on the transaction, goods and customs arrangement. A low declared value does not remove the need for an accurate description and supporting purchase evidence.
Is DDP available to Germany?
The current referenced Europe truck routes use DDP handling. Other route families must be checked individually. Under DDP, the seller or service provider takes the agreed import-clearance and charge responsibilities in the delivery term. It does not prevent customs inspection, legalise a prohibited product or cover every possible exception fee.
Ask whether the quote excludes remote-area, oversize, address-correction, storage, return, re-delivery or costs caused by an inaccurate declaration.
Germany address checklist
Provide the recipient's legal name, street and house number, apartment or c/o information where needed, postcode, city and a working phone number. German postcodes have five digits. Do not place the house number in a field intended only for the street name if the checkout separates them.
Packstation or parcel-locker delivery should not be assumed. Confirm that the final-mile carrier and chosen service accept the exact locker format before dispatch.
Common mistakes
- Choosing the cheapest tariff before disclosing the goods.
- Comparing quotations that use different carton dimensions or customs terms.
- Assuming all food, cosmetics or battery products share one acceptance rule.
- Using the seller's weight instead of the packed chargeable weight.
- Writing a vague customs description.
- Missing the house number, recipient name or correct postcode.
- Treating DDP as a guarantee that customs will not inspect the shipment.

Frequently asked questions
How long does shipping from China to Germany take?
Current planning estimates are 8–15 days by air, 25–35 days by the referenced truck services and 45–60 days by sea. They exclude seller dispatch, warehouse handling and exceptional customs delay.
Can Taobao and 1688 orders be consolidated for Germany?
Yes. Compatible purchases from multiple sellers can be received and combined. Restricted, fragile or incompatible goods may require separate packing or routes.
Does Germany shipping use actual weight?
The route normally bills the greater of actual and volumetric weight, then applies its minimum and rounding rule. Final packed measurements control.
Is DDP available for Germany parcels?
The current referenced Europe truck routes use DDP. Do not assume every air or sea option does; check the named route and written quote.
Can food be forwarded from China to Germany?
Some shelf-stable products may be eligible after ingredient review, but meat, milk and their products from non-EU countries are generally prohibited. Carrier acceptance and German import permission are separate decisions.
