Temu vs a China Shopping Agent for Europe: How to Compare the Full Cost
Short answer: Temu can be convenient when the product you want is already listed with an acceptable live checkout total. A China shopping agent is designed for buying from mainland platforms such as Taobao or 1688, receiving several domestic parcels and consolidating them for export. There is no honest universal winner on price.
The fair question is not “Which platform looks cheaper?” It is “What will I pay for the same usable goods, delivered to the same address, under comparable delivery and after-sales conditions?”
Start with the buying job
| Need | Temu checkout | China shopping agent |
|---|---|---|
| Buy a ready-listed retail product | Direct route to inspect | Usually adds an unnecessary warehouse step |
| Buy from several Taobao or 1688 sellers | Not the same sourcing workflow | Can receive and consolidate supported domestic orders |
| Check visible details before export | Depends on current platform and seller process | Warehouse photos or checks may be available as selected services |
| Choose a route after packing | Use the options shown at checkout | Compare eligible routes using final packed data |
| Ship sensitive or regulated goods | Check listing and delivery eligibility | Confirm item attributes and the named route before ordering |
The full-cost formula
Build one spreadsheet row for each option:
Delivered cost = goods + domestic delivery + applicable service charges + international delivery + payment and conversion cost + tax not already included.
Do not compare a Temu promotional price with a Taobao product price alone. The agent route may also include China-side delivery, inspection choices and international freight. Conversely, do not treat free or discounted checkout delivery as permanent; record the actual terms visible when you order.
Seven fields that make the comparison useful
- Exact specification: model, material, measurements, colour, quantity and included accessories.
- Seller evidence: listing images, specifications, sales terms and any warehouse photos.
- Current product total: after any discount that is genuinely available to your account.
- Packed parcel data: actual weight, dimensions and resulting chargeable weight.
- Named delivery service: not simply “standard” or “fast,” but the option shown in the order or quote.
- Tax statement: write down exactly what the checkout or selected route says is included.
- Problem resolution: return window, evidence required, international return cost and parcel protection terms.
Why a small order and a consolidated order behave differently
For a single low-risk item, extra warehouse and forwarding steps may offer little value. For a multi-store order, consolidation can reduce the number of international parcels and gives you a packing decision before export. That does not guarantee a lower bill: the result still depends on domestic postage, service charges, packed volume and the selected route.
Read how consolidation works before using a warehouse. If the parcel is light but large, also check volumetric weight.
Do a test order before moving a large basket
A small test order can reveal issues that a headline comparison misses: seller accuracy, warehouse photo quality, communication time, packed dimensions, payment friction and last-mile tracking. Keep the test product ordinary and easy to verify. Do not use a first test to experiment with restricted or fragile goods.
Questions to ask a shopping agent
- Which purchasing, inspection, photography, repacking and storage charges apply to this order?
- How will chargeable weight be calculated after packing?
- Which named routes currently accept these item attributes?
- Is the selected route DDP, DDU or another term?
- What evidence is required for a loss or declared-value claim?
- What happens if the seller sends the wrong item before international dispatch?

Frequently asked questions
Is Temu cheaper than buying through an agent?
Sometimes, but not in every basket. Compare the same specification and the current delivered total. A promotional checkout, a wholesale listing and a packed international parcel are not equivalent prices.
Should I use an agent for one inexpensive item?
Only if you need a service the direct checkout does not provide. For one ordinary item, the additional domestic and warehouse stages may not be worthwhile.
Can I compare delivery times directly?
Only when both time ranges cover the same interval. Confirm whether the estimate starts at seller dispatch, warehouse dispatch or carrier acceptance.
Does consolidation remove customs risk?
No. Consolidation changes packing and shipment handling; it does not make restricted goods admissible or guarantee customs release.
