Shipping Cost from China to Germany: Air, Truck, Sea and DDP

A Germany shipping estimate becomes useful only after final packing. In one July 2026 Berlin order, chargeable weight fell from 6.957 kg to 5.440 kg, reducing the charge from CNY 735 to CNY 600.

YANCHAO returned CNY 135, and FedEx recorded delivery in Berlin about 8 days and 6 hours after warehouse dispatch.

For route comparison, YANCHAO's 28 September 2026 planning snapshot starts air at 0.5 kg, truck at 12 kg and sea at 21 kg. These figures are dated references rather than live checkout prices. Capacity, route eligibility and surcharges can change, and final warehouse measurements control the payable freight.

Germany route prices at a glance

Route Dated base tariff Planning range Main condition
Europe air, general goods CNY 143 first 0.5 kg + CNY 40/additional 0.5 kg 8–15 days General goods; divisor 6000

Europe air, divisor 12000 CNY 150 first 0.5 kg + CNY 45/additional 0.5 kg 8–15 days Eligible light, bulky goods; referenced maximum 25 kg
Europe truck, general goods CNY 38/kg, 12 kg minimum 25–35 days General goods and eligible built-in-battery products; DDP

Europe sea CNY 750 first 21 kg + CNY 34.50/additional kg 45–60 days Heavy or large eligible parcels; confirm current customs term

These figures come from the YANCHAO Europe route file. They are not a parcel-specific quotation and do not include every possible optional or exception charge.

How much is 1 kg to Germany by air?

If the final chargeable weight is exactly 1 kg after route rounding:

  • general-goods air calculates to CNY 183: CNY 143 for the first 0.5 kg plus CNY 40 for the next 0.5 kg;
  • special-goods air calculates to CNY 188: CNY 145 plus CNY 43.

This arithmetic only applies if the goods qualify, the postcode is served, the route remains available and no exception fee applies. CNY 43 is the special route's price for each additional 0.5 kg, not for each kilogram.

How is chargeable weight calculated?

The route normally bills the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight.

Volumetric weight = length × width × height ÷ route divisor

Consider a packed carton measuring 55 × 45 × 40 cm and weighing 11 kg:

  • volume: 99,000 cm³;
  • at divisor 6000: 16.5 kg volumetric weight;
  • at divisor 12000: 8.25 kg volumetric weight.

The 6000 route is volume-led at 16.5 kg. The 12000 route is actual-weight-led at 11 kg. Compare the full tariff on both eligible routes; the divisor alone does not decide the cheaper option.

A real Berlin air-shipping bill: why CNY 135 was returned after packing

This YANCHAO order contained clothing, a pillow, contact-lens solution and glasses. It travelled on the Europe air route with a 12000 volumetric divisor using customs-cleared, tax-paid door delivery.

Order detail Before packing After packing
Actual weight 6.020 kg 5.440 kg
Volumetric weight 6.957 kg 3.584 kg
Chargeable weight 6.957 kg 5.440 kg

Packing reduced the chargeable weight by 1.517 kg, or 21.8%. Before packing, volumetric weight controlled the charge. After packing, actual weight was higher, so the parcel was billed from its 5.440 kg actual weight.

The tariff used for this order was CNY 150 for the first 0.5 kg and CNY 45 for every additional 0.5 kg. The payment record reconciles with partial 0.5 kg increments rounded up:

  • before packing, 6.957 kg rounded to 7.0 kg: CNY 150 + 13 × CNY 45 = CNY 735;
  • after packing, 5.440 kg rounded to 5.5 kg: CNY 150 + 10 × CNY 45 = CNY 600.

YANCHAO returned the CNY 135 difference after packing. The customer later received a separate CNY 10 confirmed-delivery benefit; it was not deducted again from this shipment's CNY 600 final freight charge.

This is one completed order, not an average price or a promise for other parcels. It shows how a provisional warehouse charge can be corrected after the finished carton is measured.

What did the delivery timeline look like?

Date and time Tracking event
7 July 2026, 21:20 Shipment information sent to FedEx
8 July 2026, 10:20 Parcel dispatched from the YANCHAO warehouse
14 July 2026, 19:12 FedEx picked up the shipment in Duiven, Netherlands
15 July 2026 Shipment moved through Langenhagen, Germany
16 July 2026, 16:34 Delivered in Berlin

Measured from warehouse dispatch to the FedEx Delivered scan, transit took about 8 days and 6 hours. The later confirmation in the customer account was an account action, so it is not used as the delivery date.

Contact-lens solution is a liquid and needs route review before payment. This order shows that its declared contents were accepted on this particular route; it does not make every liquid, brand or quantity automatically eligible for Germany.

Why can the first payment differ from the final freight charge?

The first calculation may use the parcel's recorded weight and dimensions before consolidation. YANCHAO measures the finished carton again. If packing changes the higher of actual and volumetric weight, the final charge can move up or down according to the route's billing increment.

Always compare three figures on the order record: packed actual weight, packed volumetric weight and rounded chargeable weight. A low advertised rate is not enough if a larger volumetric weight or route minimum controls the bill.

Air, truck or sea for Germany?

Parcel situation Routes worth comparing Why
Under 10 kg Standard air routes Truck and sea minimums are not met
10–11.9 kg 10 kg air vs standard air Truck still has a 12 kg minimum
12–20.9 kg Air vs truck Truck minimum is met; deadline and goods decide
21 kg+ Air vs truck vs sea All three route families may be viable
Large but light carton 12000 air vs standard air The volumetric calculation may change the billed weight
Food, cosmetics or liquid Eligible special routes only Acceptance comes before tariff comparison

Truck or sea is not automatically cheaper. A parcel below the minimum can be charged at the minimum, and a route with a lower kilogram rate may have a longer schedule or narrower acceptance.

What does DDP mean for a Germany parcel?

DDP means the service provider or seller takes the agreed responsibilities for delivery, export and import clearance, and specified import charges under the chosen delivery term. The current referenced Europe truck routes are offered with DDP handling.

DDP does not mean:

  • customs cannot inspect the parcel;
  • restricted goods become legal to import;
  • an inaccurate declaration is acceptable;
  • every air or sea route has the same customs term;
  • remote-area, oversize, address-correction, storage, return or re-delivery fees are automatically included.

Ask for the exact route name and exclusions in writing. If the quote does not state DDP, do not infer it from the destination country or carrier name.

What taxes can apply in Germany?

Imports from outside the EU can be subject to import VAT and, depending on the goods and value, customs duty or other charges. From 1 July 2026, the EU applies a temporary EUR 3 customs duty per declared item to qualifying low-value consignments of EUR 150 or less. The measure is scheduled to apply until 1 July 2028.

How charges are collected depends on the transaction and route arrangement. A DDP truck quote should state which import charges are included. A non-DDP service may require payment by the recipient or another party before delivery.

Do not undervalue the declaration to reduce charges. Keep the order page, invoice and payment evidence in case German Customs requests them.

What can change the final bill?

  • packed actual and volumetric weight;
  • route minimum and billing increment;
  • general-goods or special-goods classification;
  • destination postcode and remote-area status;
  • carton size and oversize conditions;
  • packing, reinforcement, vacuum compression or insurance;
  • DDP or non-DDP customs term;
  • address correction, storage, return or failed-delivery costs;
  • a promotion or coupon valid on the quote date.

Compare offers using the same parcel data and the same delivery scope. A DDP door-delivery quote and a non-DDP line-haul price are not equivalent.

How to request an accurate quote

Prepare:

  1. complete German postcode and city;
  2. exact item names, quantities and values;
  3. material, ingredient, liquid, powder or battery details;
  4. packed weight and all three dimensions;
  5. preferred delivery window;
  6. confirmation of the route name, divisor, minimum and customs term.

Run those inputs through the live shipping calculator. If the goods are not packed yet, treat the result as planning only and recalculate after consolidation.

Frequently asked questions

How much does 1 kg cost from China to Germany?

In the dated 28 September 2026 snapshot, exactly 1 kg of chargeable weight calculates to CNY 183 on general-goods air or CNY 188 on special-goods air. These are reference calculations, not live guarantees.

How long does air shipping to Germany take?

The referenced Europe air routes use an 8–15 day planning range. Seller dispatch, warehouse work and customs examination are separate.

How long does DDP truck shipping take to Germany?

The current referenced truck routes use a 25–35 day planning range. It is not a guaranteed delivery date.

Is DDP cheaper than regular shipping?

Not necessarily. DDP describes responsibilities, not a discount. Compare the complete payable amount, included import charges and delivery scope.

Can I calculate Germany freight from product weight?

Not reliably. Packed dimensions can make volumetric weight higher than actual weight. Use final warehouse measurements and the selected route's divisor.

Does YANCHAO refund a Germany order if packing reduces the chargeable weight?

The July 2026 Berlin order was recalculated after final packing. Its chargeable weight fell from 6.957 kg to 5.440 kg, reducing the historical route calculation from CNY 735 to CNY 600. YANCHAO returned the CNY 135 difference. The result depends on the selected route, final warehouse measurements and its billing increment.
