How to Ship from China to the UK: A Step-by-Step Guide

To ship several Chinese purchases to the UK, first obtain a dedicated warehouse address and UID, send each domestic order to that address, declare its tracking number, inspect the arrival records, consolidate the selected parcels, compare eligible UK routes using final packed measurements, confirm the DDP or DDU term and then track the international shipment.

Step 1: Check the goods before buying

Do not wait until an item reaches the warehouse to discover that it cannot be exported or imported. Record the product name, link, materials or ingredients, quantity, battery details and value. General clothing and household goods are usually straightforward; food, cosmetics, liquids, powders, medicines, branded goods, internal-battery products and sharp items require a route check.

Step 2: Create your China warehouse address

Register with the forwarding service and copy the full warehouse address exactly as displayed, including your unique UID. The UID is what allows the warehouse to match an arriving domestic parcel to the correct account when several buyers use the same physical address.

Use that warehouse address as the delivery address on Taobao, 1688 or another Chinese seller platform. Keep the domestic order and tracking records.

Step 3: Declare each domestic parcel

Enter the domestic courier tracking number in your forwarding account when required. Add an accurate item description and quantity. A parcel can be delayed at intake if the seller removes or hides the buyer reference from the label.

YANCHAO normally processes a correctly addressed parcel into the warehouse system within 48 hours after receipt, although holidays and unidentified labels can take longer.

Step 4: Review the arrival record

Check the warehouse photos, item count, visible condition and recorded weight. Resolve missing, damaged or incorrect goods while the original seller's return window is still open. A forwarder can document the arrival but does not replace the seller's after-sales policy.

Do not submit an international shipment until all intended parcels have arrived.

Step 5: Choose packing and consolidation

Select the parcels to combine. Useful requests can include removing unnecessary domestic courier packaging, compressing appropriate textiles, separating restricted items and adding protection for fragile goods.

After final packing, the warehouse records actual weight and carton dimensions. Under a 6000 divisor:

Volumetric weight = length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6000

The chargeable weight is normally the greater of actual and volumetric weight. A route with a different divisor must state it explicitly.

Step 6: Compare eligible UK routes

Do not compare routes until the item category and likely final carton are known.

Step 7: Confirm customs information and the final price

Check the destination postcode, consignee name, phone number, complete address, item descriptions, values and quantities. Confirm whether the selected route is DDP or DDU and what the quotation excludes.

The amount shown before packing may be an estimate. Final settlement follows the warehouse measurement and the live checkout rules, with adjustments handled according to the service process.

Step 8: Pay, dispatch and track

After payment and dispatch, keep the international waybill and packing record. Track the handovers rather than relying on one estimated arrival date. If tracking stops, record the last valid scan, date and carrier before contacting support.

Frequently asked questions

Can I combine Taobao and 1688 orders in one UK shipment?

Yes, if the parcels arrive at the same forwarding account and their contents are compatible with one eligible route. Mixed cargo may limit the available lines, so screen every item before consolidation.

Why did my chargeable weight increase after packing?

The final carton may have a volumetric weight greater than its actual weight, especially when the contents need protective space. Compare the final dimensions and divisor rather than the scale weight alone.

Should I use DDP or DDU?

DDP is often simpler when the service clearly includes the applicable import-charge handling. DDU may suit a buyer prepared to handle recipient charges. Confirm the exact route terms rather than assuming every UK service is DDP.

Can I ship directly to a UK university residence?
