What Can You Ship from China to the UK? A Practical Item Check

Ordinary clothing, bedding, books, kitchenware and many household goods can usually be forwarded from China to the UK. Food, cosmetics, liquids, powders, medicines, sharp items and products with internal batteries require an item-level route check. Power banks, loose batteries, perfume containing alcohol, fresh food, counterfeit goods and other prohibited items must not be sent to the YANCHAO warehouse.

Why are there two separate checks?

The first check is whether the warehouse and a specific transport line will accept the item. The second is whether the item may lawfully enter the United Kingdom under the conditions of that shipment. A “special-goods line” describes transport capability; it is not a customs exemption.

Which items are usually straightforward?

Even ordinary goods can be rejected if the quantity, value or description does not match the declared purpose.

Which items should not be sent to the warehouse?

YANCHAO's current prohibited list includes power banks, loose batteries, outdoor power stations, alcohol, perfume containing alcohol, pressurised gas, flammable chemicals, fresh food, live plants or animals, seeds, counterfeit goods, luxury goods, cash, precious metals and computer or mobile-phone storage devices.

UK authorities also prohibit or restrict controlled drugs, offensive weapons, self-defence sprays, certain animal and plant products, endangered-species goods and infringing copies. See GOV.UK's banned and restricted goods guidance.

Can food be shipped from China to the UK?

Some commercially sealed, shelf-stable foods may be considered for a specialist transport line, but the ingredient list determines whether the product can enter Great Britain. GOV.UK states that meat and meat products and milk or milk-based products from countries outside the EU are generally not allowed as personal imports, subject to limited exceptions. It separately lists items such as plain bread, certain biscuits, chocolate and pasta without meat fillings as examples that may be brought under the stated conditions.

Can medicines be posted to the UK?

Do not treat “medicine” as one transport category. Controlled ingredients, prescription status, quantity and whether the medicine is carried by the traveller or posted all matter. GOV.UK warns that medicine posted in excess of applicable personal-use conditions can be taken away, and controlled-drug rules may require proof or a licence. Start with Take medicine in or out of the UK and obtain a route check before sending anything to the warehouse.

What information should I send for an item check?

Provide:

• exact English and Chinese product name;
• product link and clear photos;
• ingredient or material list;
• capacity and quantity;
• battery type and watt-hour rating, if applicable;
• brand status;
• intended UK postcode;
• whether the goods are for personal use, a gift or resale.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ship a power bank from China to the UK through YANCHAO?

No. Power banks and outdoor power stations are on YANCHAO's prohibited list. An internal-battery product such as some headphones is a different category and still requires model and route confirmation.

Can I ship Chinese sausage or other meat snacks to the UK?

Do not send them on the assumption that a specialist food route guarantees entry. GOV.UK states that personal imports of meat and meat products from most countries outside the EU are not allowed into Great Britain.

Can I ship skincare and makeup?

Some creams, makeup and non-flammable cosmetics may have eligible specialist routes. Send the exact ingredient list, capacity and quantity first. Perfume containing alcohol is not accepted by YANCHAO.

Does warehouse acceptance guarantee customs clearance?

No. Warehouse acceptance confirms only that the provider and route may handle the item. UK customs and other regulators retain authority to inspect, restrict or seize goods.
