How Much Is Shipping from China to Canada? 2026 Air and Sea Cost Guide

In YANCHAO's route snapshot reviewed on 17 September 2026, Canada air starts at ¥105 for the first 0.5 kg and standard sea at ¥468 for 13 kg. Final cost depends on chargeable weight, billing increments and the live order-page quote.

China-to-Canada shipping rates at a glance

The following prices come from a YANCHAO operations route screenshot supplied for this page and reviewed on 17 September 2026. They are reference rates in Chinese yuan before any account-specific coupon. Availability, customs arrangement, remote-area treatment and the final payable amount must be confirmed on the current order page.

How is shipping cost from China to Canada calculated?

For a weight-based route, the basic process is:

  1. Measure the finished parcel's actual weight.
  2. Calculate volumetric weight using the divisor shown for the route.
  3. Use the greater value as the chargeable weight.
  4. Apply the route's billing increment and minimum charge.
  5. Add or deduct any confirmed optional services, destination charges or valid coupon.

For a route using a 6000 divisor:

Volumetric weight (kg) = length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6000

For the light-volume route shown above, the displayed divisor is 12000. A larger divisor reduces the calculated volumetric weight, but it does not automatically make that route cheaper because its rate and cargo conditions differ.

Real Calgary case: why a 0.65 kg reduction changed the bill

An anonymised YANCHAO parcel travelled on the Canada special-goods air route to Calgary, Alberta. It left the warehouse on 23 June 2026 at 08:09 and was recorded as received on 5 July 2026 at 03:00.

MeasurementBefore final packingAfter final packingChange
Actual weight3.850 kg3.200 kg−0.650 kg
Volumetric weight2.925 kg1.933 kg−0.992 kg
Chargeable weight3.850 kg3.200 kg−0.650 kg

The route charged ¥112 for the first 0.5 kg and ¥48 for each additional 0.5 kg. The settlement record shows how the billing tiers worked.

Prepaid estimate: ¥448

The provisional 3.850 kg chargeable weight moved into the 4.0 kg billing tier:

¥112 + 7 × ¥48 = ¥448

Final freight before coupon: ¥400

After packing, 3.200 kg moved into the 3.5 kg billing tier:

¥112 + 6 × ¥48 = ¥400

Final amount after coupon: ¥390

A ¥10 shipping coupon reduced the payable amount:

¥400 − ¥10 = ¥390

The final amount was ¥58 below the prepayment: ¥48 came from crossing one 0.5 kg billing tier, and ¥10 came from the coupon. The important lesson is that a lower measured weight saves freight only when it crosses the route's next billable increment.

This is one historical parcel, not a promise that another parcel will receive the same packing reduction, price or transit outcome.

A second air case: Vancouver packing and delivery

Another anonymised Canada special-goods air parcel was sent to Vancouver, British Columbia. It left the warehouse on 31 July 2026 at 10:32 and was recorded as received on 14 August 2026 at 01:19.

Its actual and chargeable weights changed from 9.380 kg to 9.100 kg, a reduction of 0.280 kg. Its volumetric weight increased from 5.804 kg to 6.997 kg, but actual weight remained the billing driver. This is a useful counterexample: repacking can change both measurements in different directions, and the greater value still controls.

No paid invoice was supplied for this parcel, so this page does not recreate or claim its final charge.

When is general-goods air the lower-cost option?

General-goods air has the lowest first and additional weight rates in the supplied snapshot: ¥105 for the first 0.5 kg and ¥43 for each additional 0.5 kg. It is the first route to compare for eligible clothing, household items, books and other ordinary goods without batteries, liquid, powder or restricted brand attributes.

Do not select it only because the rate is lower. If the cargo classification is wrong, the parcel may need to be rerouted or refused.

When can the 12000 light-volume route help?

The sensitive light-volume route can help when a parcel is large relative to its actual weight and its goods are eligible. For a 60 × 40 × 30 cm carton weighing 7 kg:

  • at 6000, volumetric weight is 12 kg;
  • at 12000, volumetric weight is 6 kg;
  • under a take-the-greater rule, the comparison becomes 12 kg versus 7 kg.

The 12000 route has a higher first and additional weight rate, so compare the complete quote rather than the divisor alone.

When does the 13 kg sea line make sense?

The standard sea line begins at ¥468 for 13 kg and adds ¥36 for each additional 1 kg in the supplied snapshot. Because the first tier covers 13 kg, a parcel below that level does not receive a proportionally lower base price. Sea is therefore more relevant to heavier, non-urgent consolidated shipments than to a small parcel.

For example, the route calculation at 20 kg would be:

¥468 + 7 × ¥36 = ¥720

This example uses the 17 September 2026 snapshot and excludes any coupon or route-specific destination adjustment. Confirm the current route and carton limits before dispatch.

Are Canadian duty and tax included in the freight price?

Do not assume that a freight rate automatically includes every Canadian government or customs-related charge. Confirm the exact customs arrangement shown on the selected route before payment.

The Canada Border Services Agency states that qualifying mail or courier imports from China valued at CAN$20 or less may receive duty and tax relief, subject to exclusions. Above CAN$20, applicable duty and GST/HST/PST may be assessed. The separate CAN$60 gift rule applies only to a genuine gift personally sent by a friend or relative; ordinary online purchases sent by a business do not qualify merely because they are described as gifts.

The CAN$3,300 Courier Low Value Shipment ceiling is a processing threshold, not a CAN$3,300 tax exemption. See the current CBSA mail and courier guidance and CBSA low-value threshold page.

Can food and sensitive goods use these Canada routes?

The route screenshot lists several sensitive categories, but carrier acceptance and legal admission into Canada are separate decisions. A product appearing in a route category does not guarantee that Canadian authorities will admit it.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency states that rules for personal-use food depend on the item, origin and destination province, and apply to online purchases. For products from countries other than the United States, fresh, dried and cured meat cannot be brought into Canada by mail or courier. Check the exact item in the CFIA personal-use food guidance before purchase.

YANCHAO requires designated route review for eligible sensitive goods. Power banks, loose batteries, outdoor power stations, alcohol-based perfume, tobacco or vaping products, fresh food, counterfeit goods, live plants or animals and other prohibited cargo are not accepted. A product with an installed battery must not be confused with a power bank or loose battery.

Five checks before relying on a shipping quote

  1. Use the complete Canadian postal code, not only the province or city.
  2. Submit exact product links and sensitive attributes before purchasing.
  3. Compare actual and volumetric weight using the selected route's divisor.
  4. Check the billing increment and minimum charge; a small reduction may not cross a pricing tier.
  5. Confirm customs responsibility, carton limits, optional services and the quote date before payment.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to ship 1 kg from China to Canada?

Using the 17 September 2026 snapshot before coupons, 1 kg calculates to ¥148 on general-goods air, ¥160 on special-goods air and ¥180 on the 12000 light-volume route. The goods must qualify for the route, and the current order page controls the payable amount.

How much does the 13 kg Canada sea line cost?

The supplied standard sea-line snapshot starts at ¥468 for 13 kg, with each additional 1 kg priced at ¥36. This is a dated reference rate before coupons or destination adjustments, not a permanent tariff.

Does repacking always reduce Canada shipping cost?

No. Repacking saves freight only if it lowers the greater of actual and volumetric weight enough to cross a billable tier. In the Calgary case, the final chargeable weight moved from the 4.0 kg tier to 3.5 kg, reducing freight by ¥48 before the coupon.

Is air or sea cheaper from China to Canada?

Sea usually has a lower marginal rate for a heavier qualifying shipment, but the displayed Canada sea line starts at a 13 kg price tier. Small parcels may therefore fit air better. Compare both routes using the same final packed measurements and goods.

Are food, cosmetics and batteries allowed on Canada routes?

Some designated routes can handle eligible sensitive goods, but each item requires approval and must also satisfy Canadian import rules. Power banks and loose batteries are not treated as ordinary built-in-battery products, and route acceptance does not guarantee customs admission.
