Spain Parcel Delivery and Address Guide for International Shipments

A correct five-digit postcode is not enough. Spanish delivery addresses may also need the street type and name, civic number, block, portal, staircase, floor and door. A missing apartment detail can leave the driver at the right building but the wrong recipient.

Recommended address order

The Universal Postal Union's Spain format places the street number after the street name, followed by staircase, floor and door information. The five-digit postcode appears before the locality, with the province on a separate line when used.

Correos' own data fields distinguish street type, street name, number, block, portal, staircase, floor and door. Preserve those distinctions when the YANCHAO or carrier form provides separate boxes.

Mainland, Balearic, Canary, Ceuta or Melilla?

Tell the forwarding service which territory the postcode belongs to. Mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla can have different routes, customs or tax treatment. A route priced for Madrid should not be assumed for Las Palmas, Palma, Ceuta or Melilla.

Do not rely only on the country dropdown. The postcode and locality must match the actual territory.

Before dispatch

• Confirm the recipient name is visible on the intercom or mailbox where relevant.
• Add business name, c/o, apartment, residence or hotel details if needed.
• Check whether reception accepts parcels and during which hours.
• Use a phone number monitored during the delivery window.
• Confirm remote-area, island and postcode coverage.
• Do not use a CityPaq or collection point unless the selected final-mile service explicitly supports it.

During final-mile delivery

Track the parcel and respond promptly to messages. Depending on the carrier, a failed attempt may lead to another attempt, pickup, address correction, storage or return. The exact process is carrier-specific.

Correos offers delivery modification for eligible domestic parcels, including certain address, office and CityPaq changes, but that service should not be assumed for every international forwarding route or final-mile partner.

Customs and address data must agree

Recipient data on the shipment, customs declaration and supporting documents should be consistent. If Customs or the carrier requests identity or payment evidence, submit documents matching the declared recipient and purchase.

An address correction after dispatch can create fees or delays. Correct the record before payment whenever possible.

If delivery fails

Check the tracking event before taking action. Then verify:

1. recipient name and phone;
2. civic number, portal, staircase, floor and door;
3. postcode and locality;
4. intercom access and opening hours;
5. whether charges or documents are pending;
6. the carrier's deadline for correction or pickup.

Contact support with the tracking number and corrected address in the same message. Do not send several conflicting versions.

Can I ship directly to a CityPaq locker?

Only if the selected carrier and route explicitly support the required CityPaq process. Do not enter a locker address by assumption.

Why does the forwarding company need my phone number?

The carrier may use it for delivery messages, access questions, address problems or customs documentation requests.

Does a mainland Spain route cover the Canary Islands?

Not automatically. The Canary Islands can have different routing and customs treatment. Quote with the exact postcode.
