Shipping from China to Germany or Italy: What 24 Real Parcels Show (2026)

If your orders from Taobao, 1688 or other Chinese stores arrive as many small domestic parcels, shipping them one by one is usually the expensive part. In this YANCHAO sample, 24 inbound parcels for Germany and Italy weighed 35.20 kg in total. Half weighed less than 0.5 kg, yet one 19.5 kg parcel accounted for 55.4% of the entire sample.

The practical answer from this dataset is straightforward: consolidation mattered most when the basket contained many light parcels. The three finished export shipments took 9.1, 9.3 and 10.2 days from warehouse dispatch to recorded delivery. Using the route formula available for the selected special-goods air service, the combined modelled cost was CNY 3,609—about 42% below the CNY 6,194 theoretical total if every domestic parcel had been priced separately.

Data note: This is an anonymised first-party operational sample from YANCHAO. The 24 parcels entered the China warehouse between 16 and 19 September 2026 and left in three consolidated shipments. Cost figures are calculations based on recorded parcel weights and the route formula, not customer invoices. They exclude any difference caused by final dimensions, rounding, optional services or later route changes.

The dataset at a glance

Metric Result
Inbound parcels 24: 19 for Germany, 5 for Italy
Finished export shipments 3
Combined recorded weight 35.20 kg
Average / median parcel weight 1.47 kg / about 0.50 kg
Parcels below 0.5 kg 12 (50.0%)
Weight represented by those 12 parcels 6.4% of the total
Heaviest single inbound parcel 19.5 kg
Parcels with at least one non-general-goods tag 13 (54.2%)
Average warehouse waiting time before dispatch 5.2 days
Recorded transport time 9.1–10.2 days

The median tells more than the average here. A typical parcel was about 0.5 kg, but the 19.5 kg item pulled the mean upward. That is why a quote based only on “average parcel weight” can be misleading.

How the parcel weights were distributed

Recorded parcel weight Parcels Share
0.10 kg or less 5 20.8%
Over 0.10 to 0.50 kg 7 29.2%
Over 0.50 to 1.00 kg 6 25.0%
Over 1.00 to 3.00 kg 5 20.8%
Over 3.00 kg 1 4.2%

The first German shipment contained eight inbound parcels and weighed 24.57 kg. One 19.5 kg parcel represented 79% of that shipment. The second German shipment contained 11 lighter parcels and weighed only 6.84 kg. The Italian shipment contained five parcels weighing 3.79 kg.

This distinction explains the savings pattern: the 11-parcel German shipment benefited far more from sharing one first-weight charge than the shipment already dominated by one heavy item.

What was in the sample

The warehouse records used operational handling tags rather than legal customs classifications. The sample included general goods, packaged foods, liquid or paste products, cosmetics, an item with an internal battery, powder, a knife-category item and records tagged as meat-related.

Those tags show what the warehouse had to review; they do not prove that every product is admissible in Germany or Italy. In particular, the European Commission states that personal consignments of meat and milk products from most non-EU countries generally cannot be brought into the EU or sent by post. Ingredients, quantity, packaging and destination rules still need to be checked before dispatch. A route accepting a product for review is not the same as customs guaranteeing admission.

The route used and the current price snapshot

All three historical shipments used YANCHAO's Europe special-goods air line. On 29 October 2026, the live calculator showed the following formula for that service:

Item Current calculator snapshot
First 0.5 kg CNY 145
Each additional 0.5 kg CNY 46
Volumetric divisor 6,000
Reference transit window 8–15 days

Chargeable weight is normally the greater of actual and volumetric weight, subject to route rounding. For a box measured in centimetres, the basic volumetric calculation is length × width × height ÷ 6,000.

Current route snapshots for general air, a 10 kg+ air service, truck freight and sea freight may also appear for eligible consignments. Their lower headline price does not make them interchangeable: minimum weight, product classification, dimensions and transit targets differ. Three real consolidated shipments

Destination Inbound parcels Recorded weight Dispatched Delivered Transport time Modelled special-air cost
Germany 8 24.57 kg 22 Sep 1 Oct 9.1 days CNY 2,399
Germany 11 6.84 kg 23 Sep 2 Oct 9.3 days CNY 743
Italy 5 3.79 kg 22 Sep 2 Oct 10.2 days CNY 467

The three recorded delivery times all fell inside the route's 8–15 day reference window. Warehouse waiting time was separate: the inbound parcels waited an average of 5.2 days for the customer to finish shopping and submit packing.

What consolidation changed

Shipment Consolidated model Separate-parcel model Modelled reduction
Germany, 8 parcels CNY 2,399 CNY 3,184 25%
Germany, 11 parcels CNY 743 CNY 2,009 63%
Italy, 5 parcels CNY 467 CNY 1,001 53%
Total CNY 3,609 CNY 6,194 42%

This is a pricing-model comparison, not a statement that every parcel could have been accepted as an individual international shipment. It isolates the effect of paying the first-weight charge once per consolidated shipment instead of once per inbound parcel.

A practical choice framework

Choose air freight when the final packed shipment is relatively small, the items pass the route review and delivery speed matters. Consider a 12 kg+ truck service when the shipment is heavier and a 25–35 day reference window is acceptable. Consider sea freight for eligible larger consignments when the lowest transport cost matters more than a 45–60 day reference window.

Before choosing, do four checks in this order:

  1. Submit the exact item names, ingredients or battery details for classification.
  2. Wait for the warehouse to consolidate and measure the final carton.
  3. Compare routes using chargeable—not just actual—weight.
  4. Confirm whether the selected service is duty-paid, what insurance applies and which products remain subject to destination inspection.

FAQ

How long did these China-to-Germany and China-to-Italy shipments take?

The three shipments took 9.1, 9.3 and 10.2 days from warehouse dispatch to recorded delivery. This is a small historical sample, not a delivery guarantee. The selected route's current reference window was 8–15 days when checked on 29 October 2026.

How much did the 24-parcel sample cost?

Using the selected route formula and the recorded weights, the three consolidated shipments modelled at approximately CNY 3,609 in total, or CNY 150 per inbound parcel. These are calculated estimates rather than paid invoices.

Is it always cheaper to wait for more parcels?

No. Waiting can reduce repeated first-weight charges, but it also adds warehouse time and may push the carton into volumetric, dimension or higher-risk handling rules. Compare the final packed quote with the value of receiving the items sooner.

Can food, cosmetics, batteries or meat products be shipped to Germany and Italy?

Some routes review packaged food, cosmetics and internal-battery goods, but acceptance depends on the exact product. EU import rules still apply. Meat and dairy products from most non-EU countries are generally restricted in personal postal consignments, so do not rely on a warehouse tag alone.

Are duties and VAT always included?

Only use “duty paid” when the selected checkout route explicitly says so. The EU import VAT base can include customs value plus duties and transport-related costs. Route terms and customs decisions should be checked for the specific shipment.
